As Euro 2016 reaches its final stages, digital TV provider Swisscom TV2.0 has deployed the Cisco Ultra HD Live Encoding solution for its viewing experience for the football championship.

Swisscom 4 may 2016Boasting over 1.4 million subscribers, and with the Cisco live encoding solutions in place, the company believes it is now able to offer subscribers immersive, 4K content, including live sports, available for 24-hour programming. Swisscom is using the Cisco Ultra HD encoding solution that is part of the Cisco Virtual Video Processing platform (V2P). This solution is claimed to be able to provide best-in-class live video picture quality as a strong technical foundation to the Swisscom Ultra HD infrastructure.

“We decided to evaluate a number of encoders in a pilot phase to ensure that we made the right selection, with focus on picture quality and stability,” explained Peter Fregelius, head of TV development and technology, Swisscom. “Cisco came out on top with excellent live UHD picture quality and delivering the stability we requested. We are very happy to collaborate with Cisco for our UHD live launch during the 2016 European Football Championship.”
