Over half of TV homes in Argentina followed the Copa América final, in which the national team faced Chile.

messi copa americaAccording to Kantar Ibope Media, the final - which saw the same two rivals as in 2015 face each other again - got an average 50.4% share through live broadcastings on TyC Sports and public TV. The penalty shootout saw ratings increase to 56%.

The Kantar figures also show that on average 4.12 million Argentineans followed this, the third consecutive final reached by their national team and the third that the team, led by Messi, has failed to win.

Viewer numbers for the final of the Copa America centennial edition, held in the US for the first time, were higher than the 2015 edition, which got a 45.7% share.

Both games also drew more viewers than Argentina’s most eagerly anticipated game, the Superclásico between Boca Juniors and River Plate.
