The incumbent telco in the Netherlands, KPN, has added SPI’s FUNBOX/4K UHD channel for a user-friendliness trial to test its new 4KTV platform and 4K set-top box (STB).

SPI Funbox 24 June The trial, based on 1,000 participants, began on 21 June and is designed to gain better understanding of what viewers want to watch based on the different features of the available STBs.

FUNBOX 4K/UHD will be the only linear Ultra HD channel to be offered at the beginning of the test launch of the new platform. SPI International’s Ultra HD general entertainment channel was selected by KPN after having reviewed all linear 4K channels available on the market and, according to the content provider, the Dutch operator made FUNBOX 4K/UHD its final choice for the trial programme, based on ‘superior visual quality’ of the channel.

“We are pleased to see platforms which are seriously looking into 4K programming end up selecting our channel,” said Berk Uziyel, executive director at SPI International/Filmbox. “It confirms our highest quality content approach and a general entertainment multi-genre channel profile approach that we adopted for this project.”
