Claiming to have created an ‘online video powerhouse’ positioned to take full advantage of accelerating adoption of live and on-demand streaming, NeuLion has acquired Saffron Digital.

saffron neulion 7 June 2016For the last ten years Saffron has been working with Hollywood studios, entertainment content owners and mobile operators and has made its mark in designing and building specialist multi-platform global premium OTT video-on-demand (VOD) digital services. Its core platform supports advanced implementations of subscription VOD, electronic sell through and advertising-supported VOD, and boasts a customer base that including ITV, BT, Deutsche Telecom, Carrefour, Tribeca Shortlist and Vidity.

NeuLion believes that the combined synergies derived from adding its experience in delivering live TV channels and live sports to the Saffron assets acquisition can transform the over-the-top (OTT) challenges faced by owners and rights holders of sports, entertainment, films and TV channels.

It adds that the combined entity can now reduce project complexities for all content rights holders of existing and new OTT services by decreasing the number of vendors involved in their projects and ‘significantly’ decrease time to market for new OTT and TV everywhere services in comparison to other technology options.

“The OTT video market is accelerating rapidly in the US, Europe and other parts of the world, and represents a large and growing addressable market for the combined company,” remarked NeuLion president and chief executive officer Roy Reichbach. “The integrated company can offer owners and rights holders of sports and entertainment a complete end to end solution for both live and on demand content that is a clear market leader.”
