Star India is preparing to launch a free-to-air (FTA) film channel, Star Utsav Movies, by June 2016, according to local reports.
This will be the latest Hindi channel under the Star Utsav brand. It will be available in India via Freedish direct-to-home (DTH) service, run by public broadcaster Doordarshan.
Originally called Star Gold Romance, the Ministry for Information and Broadcasting recently granted Star India a licence to re-name the channel Star Utsav Movies.
The channel becomes the fourth Hindi movie channel broadcast by the media giant, in addition to Star Gold, Star Gold HD and Movies OK.
It will compete in the FTA space with Viacom18’s Rishtey Cineplex, also carried on the Freedish FTA satellite service.
