In a coup for the pan-European broadcaster, Eurosport has signed legendary athlete Jonathan Edwardsas lead presenter for its forthcoming Olympics coverage.
Since retirement, the Olympic, World, European and Commonwealth triple jump champion has carved out a carer in broadcasting as both presenter and analyst, and for Eurosport will be the international anchor of the channel’s forthcoming roster of events beginning with the European Aquatics Championships hosted in London during May 2016.
He will present exclusively for Eurosport from January 2017 and then be at the forefront of Eurosport’s coverage of the PyeongChang 2018 Olympic Winter Games, following last year’s announcement by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) that it had awarded all TV and multi-platform broadcast rights in Europe to Discovery and Eurosport for the 2018-2024 Olympic Games.
Commenting on the appointment, Edwards, said: “It will be a huge honour to tell the stories of the world’s greatest sporting events to passionate fans right across the world, including from the Olympic Games. Eurosport is fast becoming the number one destination for live and exclusive sport and I am thrilled to be a part of its continued growth.”
Added Eurosport CEO Peter Hutton: “Securing Jonathan as Eurosport’s lead presenter is a further example of our ambition to tell the best sports stories, with the best sports storytellers, and to fuel the passion of fans leading up to our Olympic Games coverage in 2018 and beyond. Jonathan was the ultimate professional as an athlete and has since become one of the foremost voices of sports broadcasting. As a world class presenter, commentator and journalist, he will bring expert insight to Eurosport viewers across all our markets.”
