Portugal Telecom has acquired a decade of Porto FC's broadcasting rights for an amount that has broken records in the country.

Starting in July 2018 and continuing for ten consecutive seasons, Portugal Telecom will manage and commercially exploit the broadcasting rights the team when they play at home in the national football league.

During this time, the telco will also own the broadcasting rights for Porto Canal, the club's official TV channel. Portugal Telecom will also be able to advertise on the team's T-shirts over the next seven seasons.

The agreement has been valued at €457.5 million, a record within the country and a massive figure even within the European sports TV market.

“This agreement marks a step forward in our commitment to our customers. We aim to deliver the best content, services and products to the Portuguese,” said Paulo Neves, CEO, Portugal Telecom. “This deal also reinforces our commitment to sports, football, the national team and Cristiano Ronaldo.”

“Porto's administration is happy about reaching such an agreement with Portugal Telecom. It's remarkable that both groups have the courage to complete this operation, which brings trust and optimism to our future,” added the football club.
