Despite the slowdown in growth of Latin America's largest market, second-line markets are maintaining the region as one of the fastest pay-TV markets in the world, coming third after Africa and the Middle East.

According to Dataxis, Latin America's subscriber base grew by 7.8% in 2014, surpassing 67 million. This number only reflects the legal subs of each operator, but the region would be grazing the 85 million barrier if pirate subscribers were paying for the service, according to recent reports.

Subscriber figures in first-place Africa grew by 19.2% in 2014 and Middle East (without India) was up by 10.7%. After Latin America come India (6.3%), the Asia Pacific (5.3%), Europe (5%) and North America (0.2%).

Dataxis' worldwide report says there are 1,000 million pay-TV subs around the globe, with Latin America gathering 6.57% of them. Brazil, the region's main market, represents nearly 2% of the world's pay-TV subscriber base.
