State-owned telco China Unicom has chosen a video contribution network from Swedish company Net Insight to support the transportation of media content from live sports events.

Video contribution from a number of sports arenas across China will be central to the Net Insight Nimbra MSR technology, with content to be delivered to China Unicom's central hub in Beijing.

The network, which was delivered in the first quarter of 2015, will enable the transport of native video and audio with carrier-class Metro Ethernet switching. It also offers hitless 1+1 protection switching and video multicasting capabilities. Both video and data will be carried over China Unicom's existing infrastructure using dual uplinks for high availability.

"China Unicom is our first major telco in the country and this is another important step forward for Net Insight, reinforcing the trust we have built in the region and the strength of our brand in the market in China," said Fredrik Tumegård, CEO, Net Insight.

The contract was won through Net Insight's major distributor in China, NI Systems.
