FlixLatino is the new over-the-top (OTT) platform targeting the Hispanic and Spanish-speaking audience across the US. Launched by SOMOS Next, the service brings to the North American market over 400 current movies which have been produced in Latin America - Mexico, Colombia, Argentina and Venezuela - and Spain.
"It was necessary to start creating brands which can be recognised by the users as a quality product and FlixLatino is to become a leader in its market," commented Luis Villanueva, CEO and president of SOMOS Next. "Our catalogue needs a platform that guarantees their quality, as the actors and the movies are not well known among the US audience."
FlixLatino has launched a YouTube channel, through which it broadcasts free and video-on-demand (VOD) films. It is currently in talks with pay-TV platforms such as DirecTV - and its own OTT service, Yaveo - to increase distribution.
"We're very happy about the market response so far; this is a logical expansion that comes from our expertise as distributors of Spanish-language cinema," added Villanueva.
FlixLatino's catalogue includes more than 400 productions, some in HD, across all the genres, including many of the latest Spanish and Latin American blockbusters. The OTT and VOD platform, which is operational in the US and Puerto Rico, is also available on mobile screens including tablets and smartphones.
