As it looks to expand across Europe after establishing itself in the UK and Spain, over-the-top (OTT) video-on-demand (VOD) service Wuaki.tv has inked a technology partnership with video analytics, delivery optimisation and big data firm Conviva.
The two parties hope that as one team they will be able to enable the delivery of high quality online TV viewing experience with real-time intelligence across new regions of its service deployment. With more than one million users already across the UK and Spain, Wuaki.tv streams a catalogue of premium film and TV series that includes content from UK distributors such as the BBC and ITV as well as films from major studios like Warner Bros and Disney.
Looking at its expansion plan, Wuaki.tv said it required further technology and intelligence to successfully expand. It added that it was seeking the ability to provide an exceptional viewing experience to its customers, achieve greater understanding of the regional viewing behaviour within new territories, as well as the intelligence to diagnose service interruptions in real time.
Wuaki.tv will use Conviva Precision to provide an optimum viewing experience via tablets, consoles and connected TVs. Conviva continuously collects video metrics from hundreds of millions of devices across Europe within its Intelligent Control Platform. By analysing these metrics, Precision executes real-time streaming decisions for each individual viewer to deliver optimal video quality over existing Internet streaming infrastructure. Conviva will also provide real-time diagnostics of each individual viewer's experience, across all devices, to identify all potential issues that may impede the viewing experience.
"Wuaki.tv, like all of our customers, is facing increasing pressure to meet higher and higher user expectations for quality of experience," explained general manager, EMEA Conviva, Ian Franklyn. "When preparing for expansion, it becomes critical for popular services like Wuaki.tv to be in a position to guarantee a TV-quality service."
