In a major coup for the white label video publishing company, thePlatform has won a major order with Modern Times Group (MTG) subsidiary Viaplay.

Under the terms of the deal, thePlatform will provide back-end video management for Viaplay’s leading online service for TV shows, movies and sporting events in the Nordic region.

Viaplay will make use of the cloud-based, mpx video publishing system to manage its TV services to support viewers on PCs, smartphones, tablets, smart TVs, Xbox, PlayStation 3, as well as Viaplay’s over-the-top (OTT) set-top box. mpx will offer workflow management of Viaplay’s video ingest; metadata management; subscriber management and viewing rights enforcement; and automated publishing across device and video player profiles. Geographically, mpx will manage Viaplay’s online TV services in Sweden, Norway, Denmark and Finland.

“thePlatform has an exceptional track record of managing large-scale online TV services around the globe,” explained Niclas Ekdahl, CEO of Viaplay. “mpx enables us to centralize our video publishing efforts across all our territories and let our subscribers watch their favourite movies, sports and TV shows on their device of choice when convenient to them.”

"Viaplay is a pioneering leader in providing premium online TV series, movies and live sports to consumers across the Nordics,” said Ian Blaine, CEO of thePlatform. “We’re very proud to help Viaplay offer its video services across the devices and countries they serve. And, as part of our expanding commitment to Europe, we continue to increase our investment in regional infrastructure and our local service organisation to enable timely and secure video publishing with enterprise-grade reliability.”
