The general state of the country’s economy may not be too healthy right now but there’s nothing on the wane about India’s set-top box market, according to new research from 6Wresearch.

The analyst found that the Indian set-top box market recorded total shipments of 5.6 million units in the second quarter of 2013, a sequential rise of 5%.

In term of those driving the market, the top three players comprised almost three-fifths of the market which was led by Skyworth, accounting for 38% of sales, followed by Cisco and Skynet with 11% and 10% respectively.

Looking at technology, in Q2 2013, the DVB-C type of set-top boxes experienced a growth of more than 12% compared with the previous quarter and now represents more than four-fifths of total unit shipments for the India set-top box market in CY Q2 2013. However, local STB production exhibited a quarter-on-quarter decline of 60%.
