Telefonica has started a trial of Movistar TV in a small area of Spain when the new version of Imagenio television was premiered yesterday in some areas of Madrid and Valladolid.
From now until 21 May, the rest of Spain will gradually receive the new version of Telefonica's IPTV platform. The company will shortly explain how Movistar TV will change and announce the concrete dates for the complete updating of the system.
The opinions of the first users can already be read in Movistar's forums. A more fluid interface which has a completely renewed graphic and a new programme guide are the main changes reported. These satisfied some of users, but weren't enough for others. It is, however, only a trial run and the final details will be announced shortly, but Movistar TV has already generated great expectations.
The company is assuring customers that new changes are coming and that the platform will be completely ready by the end of the summer. Telefónica's pay-TV offering is trying to reinforce its position in the Spanish market. Movistar TV is not only a new brand with a new face, it also aims to change the way audiovisual products are consumed thanks to a multiplatform service.
During the past months, Movistar TV has been already developed a marketing campaign to try to entice new customers, first by offering rather big discounts for new clients and also by creating a sports IPTV channel with Mediapro. Now it is time for the technological changes which aim to make the platform more attractive.
