A new user interface and second screen app along with an updated content delivery platform are among the key features of a major enhancement of SPB’s TV Solution for TV everywhere.
The TV apps and new user interfaces (UI) are tailored are dedicated for iOS, Android, Symbian and Windows 8 platforms application, with the latter designed in a genuine Metro style. SPB TV also offers an over-the-top (OTT/desktop version of the Web-based interface to make the service available on all devices supporting Internet browsers.
The new second screen application is designed to bring augmented TV viewing experience to subscribers, enriching the home TV viewing experience with social sharing features as well as augmented reality elements. The app makes TV interactive, giving viewers additional useful information such as actor or director trivia, sport players’ and athletes’ bios and statistics, detailed recipes used in cooking shows, or even alternative movie endings.
In terms of content delivery, the new SPB TV Media Platform 5.0 features what the company boasts as a “revolutionary” technology for creating a sustainable CDN (Content Delivery Network) and for transferring live and video-on-demand (VOD) TV channels to all video-enabled devices across large distances. Dedicated FEC (Forward Error Correction) technology is designed to prevent package loss even on RTSP video protocol. It also offers a new business intelligence and reporting engine, a new content management system, an updated advertising platform and encoders and streamers.
