Switzerland's largest cable operator UPC Cablecom will offer its customers the option to use interactive multimedia services in the HbbTV standard from January 2013.

The move will enable viewers to access catch-up portals, video-on-demand services and other multimedia applications on their TV screens. To access the services, viewers will need an HbbTV-compliant TV set connected to the Internet.

All customers receiving the unencrypted digital basic package directly through the DVB-C digital cable tuner of their TV set or the DigiCard (CI+) can receive the HbbTV services.

Each TV broadcaster is responsible for its own HbbTV signal.
