Technical broadcasting costs paid by French broadcasters to TDF have "strongly decreased" owing to the digital switchover, the broadcast transmission services provider has explained in a statement.

The price for digital broadcast is four to eight times less than for analogue television. "Today, broadcasting costs represent an average of 1-3% of the budget handled by an audiovisual group," the company said.

TDF even added that DTT channel costs will decrease even further between now and 2015, with forecasts passing from €12-14 million for one channel covered nationally to less than €10 million.

TDF was replying to concerns expressed by Pascal Houzelot, who runs the new DTT HD channel Numéro 23 - set to launch on 12 December - and recently judged costs too high for new networks.
