Less than one hundred days before the opening ceremony of the London Olympics, Virgin media has unveiled its range of content for the Games.
With basic content provided by the BBC and Eurosport, Virgin will offer 24 live channels in SD and HD from the BBC, TiVo Red Button interactive services plus Eurosport and BBC content in 3D.
Virgin says that its extensive coverage will mean that for the first time ever, every Olympic sport will be available to view live. In addition, through the heavily marketed Virgin TiVo services, the cable operator says that it will complement the dedicated BBC Red Button application offering catch-up functionality.
The 3DTV offerings include the opening and closing ceremonies courtesy of the BBC while Eurosport will broadcast a mix of around eight hours of live coverage in 3D alongside four hours of each day’s main highlights.
Commented Aleks Habdank, director of digital entertainment at Virgin Media: “With a full range of live channels in HD and the first Olympics in 3D, Virgin Media TV customers are going to be spoilt with an unbeatable experience for watching the 2012 London Olympics. This year’s unprecedented breadth of viewing options will allow fans of any Olympic sport to watch their favourite events live and on demand, and with BBC and Eurosport 3D, viewers will be able to immerse themselves in the Games as never seen before.”
