German commercial TV group Mediengruppe RTL Deutschland has purchased a large movie package from Walt Disney.

The multi-year agreement of which financial details have not been disclosed contains the German free-to-air TV debut rights of new releases from Disney, Pixar, Marvel and DreamWorks from 2012.

Also part of the package are current TV series from ABC Studios, made-for-TV movies from Disney Channel and Disney classics.

With the deal, RTL beats its main competitor ProSiebenSat.1 which used to show Disney's productions on German free-TV. Not long a ago, it went the other way: ProSiebenSat.1 snatched away a Warner Brothers movie package from RTL.

The blockbusters which the RTL channels will now be able to show on German free-TV for the first time include science-fiction adventure "John Carter" which will be released in German cinemas in March 2012, Pixar production "Brave", Marvel comic film adaption "The Avengers" and German co-production "Frisch Gepresst".

RTL holds contracts with further major studios such as Warner Brothers, NBC Universal and Studiocanal.
