French-speaking international news channel TV5Monde has inked its first worldwide distribution deal for a connected TV service with Philips and Toshiba.

The new service will be embedded on all Philips’s connected devices, TV sets, Blu-Ray players and Home Media centres as of the end of July. It will be offered on Toshiba devices next September.

Viewers from all over the world will get a free access to TV5 catch-up TV service, to web TVs TV5Monde + Afrique and youth-dedicated TiVi5Monde+, along with a programme guide. The offer for the 3-12 demo is not available in France, Belgium, Switzerland, the UK, US and Canada.

TV5Monde’s connected service will be complementary to its linear broadcast channel that reaches 220 millions homes worldwide. Talks are currently underway with other connected TV manufacturers with the view to announce further distribution deals before the end of 2011.
