French DTT channels broke new records for audience viewing in April 2011 according to Médiamétrie’s monthly survey.
Credited with a 22.8 % audience share, up by 1% over the previous month, DTT channels consolidated their positions on the French TV market.
In April 2010 they reached a 19.7 % audience share with specific channels such as Direct 8 (2.5%), NRJ 12 (2.4%) and NT1 (1.9%) all reaching their highest levels while others such as TMC (3.7%) or France 4 (1.8%) recording creditable results.
At the same time, historic free-to-air channels are becoming increasingly challenged. In April 2011, TF1 also broke a record, losing 1.3% audience share over one month, reaching its lowest rate.
PSB channel France 2 also lost field passing from 15.3 % to 15% while sister channel France3 was up 0.1 % to 9.8 % but still under that illusive 10% share barrier. A month ago, M6 progressed 0.1% to 10.8%, keeping its third place among French channels.
