US entertainment company Walt Disney will launch Disney Junior in Germany. The pay-TV channel, which targets children between 2 and 7 years of age, will replace pre-school channel Playhouse Disney from 14 July.

Disney Junior is set up as a multimedia service with a strong foothold on the internet. The website http://www.disneyjunior.de, which will already launch on 21 April, will contain information on TV shows, additional content to download, learning games, competitions and video play-lists which can be personalised. The channel will also have its own sites at Facebook and YouTube.

With its launch, Disney Junior will bring a number of new TV shows to Germany including US series "Jake And The Never Land Pirates" and new episodes of handicraft programme "Attack"

In June 2010, Walt Disney announced to rename Playhouse Disney into Disney Junior in all countries the channel is available from 2011 and to extend its programme scope.
