TV broadcaster MTV Networks will launch its entertainment channel Comedy Central in Austria on 1 January 2011. The channel will take over the airtime of children’s channel Nickelodeon each evening at 20.15 CET.

The service will be available free-to-air via cable and satellite. Music channel VIVA, which currently occupies the evening hours at Nickelodeon, will become a 24 hour service in Austria on 1 January 2011.

Comedy Central targets viewers in the 12-49 years age group with comedy series, sitcoms, stand-up comedy shows, cartoons and specials. The schedule includes popular series such as ‘Friends’, ‘Seinfeld’, ‘Little Britain’ and ‘The IT Crowd’.

With VIVA, Nickelodeon and Comedy Central, MTV Networks will offer a total of three free-to-air channels in Austria from 1 January 2011.
