The Outdoor Channel has finally formally launched in Asia, starting official life in six markets in the region – Korea, the Philippines, Thailand, Indonesia, Taiwan and Vietnam.

Outdoor Channel is broadcast across the Asia-Pacific region in full HD on ABS-1 and in SD on ABS-5 as part of an integrated broadcast services agreement with Asia Broadcast Satellite.

The pay-TV operators and distributors picking up the channel’s feed are Asahi Investment Corp/Nine Planners (Korea), Cable Boss and Cablelink (Philippines), Cable Thai Holdings and Triple T Network (Thailand), HiTron (Papua New Guinea), SkyNindo (Indonesia), TITV-MOD (Taiwan) and VTC (Vietnam). These represent over 2 million homes in which the channel will be present.

Multi Channels Asia (MCA), which owns the Outdoor Channel as well as operating a channel representation business, said more distributors would be announced in January 2011. MCA has had some time to sew up deals, first soft launching the channel in the region in 2009.

Gregg Creevey, Managing Director, Asia for MCA said: "Since we started with a preview of Outdoor Channel in 2009, the response from pay TV operators has exceeded all expectations. Now with our formal launch and roll out into over 2 million households across 6 countries, Outdoor Channel is one of the most successful new channel launches in recent years.”
