Spain's national public broadcaster TVE has extended the coverage of its HD transmissions.

The signal is now receivable in all homes with the right equipment in forty provinces, among them Valencia, Alicante, Guipúzcoa, Tarragona, Santander, Cáceres, Badajoz or Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, apart from Ceuta and Melilla. These provinces are added to Madrid, Barcelona, Zamora, A Coruña, Zaragoza and Valladolid which have been getting the HD signal for some months now.

TVE HD now reaches 63% of Spanish population meaning over 28 million people. And by the beginning of next year 90% of the country's population will get it.

Content transmitted in HD include "The Tudor" TV series, a number of the films within "La película de la semana", the important sporting events and the next season of the successful Spanish production TV series "Aguila roja" and "Cuéntame cómo pasó".

The extension of TVE HD coverage is a consequence of the initial transmissions of the transmitter-receiver offering a copy of TVE's sporting channel TeleDeporte and also of the tests of TVE HD.

By May 2011 the public broadcaster foresees the channel's coverage will be 96% and by 2015, 98%.

As the broadcaster extends its HD signal it will also incorporate more programming using the techology.
