Animax, the thematic television channel for the fans of Japanese carton series (animes), has released further details of its expansion into lifestyle channel for viewers between 14 and 29 years.
The new channel will begin on 8 September and in addition to animes, which will continue fill the largest part of the schedule, the pay-TV service will then also screen general cartoons, movies and presenter-led trend shows covering the areas of electronic games, music, cinema/DVD releases and entertainment.
The highlights are in-house produced music show “The little record shop” , US teenager series “The Boondocks” as a German TV premiere and the vampire series “Dance in the vampire bund”. At the same time, Animax will get a new on-air design and a revised internet presence with more emphasis on social media.
The channel, which is operated by Sony Pictures Television, reaches more than 2 million subscribers via cable, satellite and IPTV. The expansion plans, which also cover localised Animax versions in other markets, were first announced in March.
