Comcast’s Golf Channel is looking for distribution in Taiwan, after appointing local firm Transmedia International to launch the 24/7 high-definition service in the country.

Transmedia will operate the new channel, that will offer coverage and highlights of some of the sport’s top tournaments including the PGA Tour, Champions’ Tour and President’s Cup. Original series on golf such s Golf Central, The Haney Project and Golf With Syle, will be subtitled.

Timothy Ma, CEO, Transmedia, said: “We’re delighted to work with Comcast International Media Group and the PGA Tour to launch Golf Channel HD in Taiwan. Golf fans now have the ultimate destination to watch the best golf tournaments and original content.”

Christine Fellowes, Managing Director, Asia Pacific, CIMG added: “We’re thrilled to be launching in Taiwan,  representing an important new opportunity as the digital future becomes a reality with the rapid expansion of digital pay TV and HD services. Golf Channel appeals to a high income and aspirational demographic, an important subscription and advertising driver in Taiwan. As the sport continues to grow in popularity, we expect the channel to appeal to an increasingly broad audience.”

Golf Channel can be seen in more than 110 million homes in over 60 countries. In Asia, it is available in Japan, Malaysia and Singapore.
