German telco Deutsche Telekom is now marketing its IPTV platform T-Home Entertain without compulsory internet access.

Entertain Pur comprises the TV offer and a telephone line for €27.95 per month, or €39.95 with a flat rate for domestic fixed line telephone calls. The HDTV receiver with hard drive necessary for reception can be rented or purchased. As part of a special offer all new customers who subscribe to Entertain until January 4 2010 will receive the HDTV receiver MR 300 for one year free of charge.

“With Entertain Pur we are offering telephony and television from a single source, thereby attracting new user groups to our Entertain offer,” said marketing head Christian P. Illek. “Customers not interested in internet no longer have to renounce the innovative possibilities of Entertain.”

Until now Entertain was only available with internet access for a monthly price of €44.95. With the slimmed down, less expensive variation Telekom mainly wants to attract older customers who are not interested in internet access and already have a telephone line from the Bonn-based company. With its new strategy, which was announced in September, Telekom is heating up the competition with cable operators which supply a large portion of its target group with television.

Entertain comprises more than 120 TV channels, around 2,500 radio stations, a TV archive, a digital video library with 10,000 titles – 500 in HDTV – and additional premium services such as the soccer Bundesliga offer LIGA total!. Around 20 million households can receive Entertain through Telekom’s ADSL2+ and VDSL broadband lines.
