Thematic television viewing is rising in Spain proving viewers want something different. This trend has been there for almost two years now and it is more and more confirmed with the development of DTT which offers thematic channels including Disney Channel and RTVE's sporting channel TeleDeporte.

In Q2 this year, thematic channels reached audience share of 7.5% with nearly 13 million people watching them for at least one minute during June. Half of those did so on a daily basis.

By region the Basque Country (8.7%), Valencia (8.9%) and the Canary Islands (7.6%) are above the national average for thematic channel viewing share.

Especially relevant is the increasing number of minutes watched by those aged between 13 and 24 years of age.

As for the profile of the followers of this type of channel, 50.2% of their audience is made up of men while 49.8% are women.
