German marketing agency Schober Group has acquired a share in internet TV platform Zattoo. Details regarding the size of the stake and the purchase price have not been disclosed.
As part of the partnership Schober will take over responsibility for the online commercialisation of Zattoo. Initially Germany and Switzerland will be the focus for marketing, with further European countries to follow.
Zattoo transmits live streams from public and commercial free-to-air broadcasters via internet. The free offer, financed through advertising, currently has around 1.5 million users in Germany, over 800,000 in Switzerland and more than four million worldwide.
New to the service is a premium variation offering channels in high definition picture quality for a monthly fee. The next step planned is to include pay-TV channels.
