Australia will get its first Chinese-language mobile TV service, with Star TV closing a deal with sister News Corp unit News Digital Media and mobile telco 3Australia.

Star Mandarin Mobile will be available to 3 subscribers at A$1 a day or A$4 a month. The service will feature some of Star’s Mandarin television programming, including Channel [V] Taiwan’s Blackie’s Teenage Club, Gossip Queen and The Cave. More shows will continue to be added.

Kate Pepper, Head of Content at 3 mobile said: “Offering our customers diversity of content is key and we are very pleased to offer our Mandarin speaking customers a great new mobile TV channel. Now they will be able to watch some of Asia’s most popular Mandarin programs on the go.”
