Advanced Digital Broadcast (ADB) has won a major box order from Austria.

ADB, a supplier of digital TV systems and software solutions for interactive television, says it has won an order to supply HDTV/AVC set top boxes (their ADB-3800W model) for IPTV services from Telekom Austria.

In addition to 82 TV programmes the IPTV television service includes Video-on-Demand comprising movies, series and documentaries, an electronic programme guide and information services, incorporating news, traffic information, and radio channels.

Helmut Leopold, Head of Platform and Technology Management at Telekom Austria said that they chose ADB because they needed a partner with experience in hardware and software integration for the IPTV launch. "We anticipate that there will be an overwhelming response for our IPTV service which is a very important part of our triple play service offering targeted at residential customers," he added.

The ADB-3800W is an advanced IPTV set-top box incorporating standard definition (SD) and HDTV reception using H.264/MPEG-4 AVC coding. The unit therefore enables operators to optimise their broadcast bandwidth, while presenting consumers with the highest quality in sound and vision. The product includes hardware features such as a single-chip microprocessor and HDMI interface and ADB's unique operating software ensures enhanced system and product performance including fast channel decoding and swift rendering of on-screen graphics and applications. The unit is fully compatible with TV centric, interactive applications such as web browsing.
