Analyst NPD is reporting what it says is the passing of a key milestone in the connected TV industry during the second quarter of 2015 with the news that half of US Internet homes own such a device.

A week late but still on time for most of the football season, Movistar+ has launched a second-screen app to complement its extensive coverage of La Liga, including video-on-demand (VOD) recaps and highlights, statistics and social TV features.

Long-time mobile video provider MobiTV has partnered with artificial intelligence (AI) company Vidora to offer what it claims are the most personalised and engaging mobile video services.

Software provider 3 Screen Solutions (3SS) has joined the Metrological preferred content partnership programme to help content owners and pay-TV operators design and deliver new apps.

ThinkAnalytics, developer of one of the world's most deployed multi-platform TV search and recommendations engine, has appointed Rick Schiavinato as VP of sales and business development for Latin America, a role in which he will be responsible for leading sales and marketing.

In a region of delayed digitalisation and slow technology penetration, there are great expectations for the five largest Latin American countries - Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia and Mexico - in the coming years as the number of connected screens is set to double and 4K TVs will exceed one million units before 2018.

Honestly, I don't know why people even buy TVs anymore. The resolution is getting to be so advanced that there comes a point when a difference in picture quality doesn't even matter.
