Reliance MediaWorks eyes south India expansion

Reliance MediaWorks, the entertainment division of Anil Ambani's empire, is to expand its domestic operations in the field of broadcasting, television commercials and film – particularly in South India.

"In 2012, we plan to deepen our presence in Tamil and Telugu markets through strategic alliances, further strengthen our offerings and leverage of existing relationships with capacity expansion and new strategic partnerships," said Anil Arjun, chief executive.

The company has recently partnered VenSat to grow its animation output and create a studio in Chennai. It will also manage and operate the Annapurna Studios facilities and expand the company's post-production centre at the Hydrabad studios.

Reliance MediaWorks' television venture, BIG Synergy, is a major player in TV programming, while its post production services are pervasive across India.

In 2011, the company claims its post production services, including processing, digital cinema mastering, and promos, trailers and visual effects, were applied to 110 out of the 114 Bollywood films released in 2011.

In addition, it offers digital imaging, visual effects and digital restoration services.
