Blockbuster line up of TV premieres for Zee Cinema

India media group Zee has acquired a host of big name Hindi movies to broadcast on its flagship movie channel Zee Cinema, countering increased competition in the TV film genre from Star India.

Zee Cinema's new season of television film premieres will include Don 2, Agneepath, Agent Vinod, Barfee, Heroine, Players, Joker, Michael and My Friend Pinto.

Agneepath, a remake of the 1990 Hindi film of the same name, is directed by Karan Johar's former assistant Karan Malhotra and stars Hrithik Roshan, Priyanka Chopra and Rishi Kapoor.

The action sequel to Don reunites Shah Rukh Khan and Priyanka Chopra as the Don and detective Roma, with the international backdrops of Thailand, Berlin, Kuala Lumpur and Switzerland.

Agent Vinod, meanwhile, is a yet to be released Hindi action-thriller starring Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor and directed by Sriram Raghavan.

"We are very happy to have augmented our vast library to bring these films to the Indian audiences. We will soon be bringing the biggest blockbusters to the small screen," said Punit Goenka, managing director and chief executive, Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd.

"These films will give us a golden opportunity to showcase some of the most awaited films on TV. We have already drawn a very positive advertiser response for the films."

The acquisitions follow purchases by Zee last year of Hindi movie titles such as Double Dhammal, Tanu Weds Manu, Shaitan, Bbuddah Hoga Terra Baap, Chalo Dilli, Shagird and Pyaar ka Punchnama.
