Showing its commitment to beauty, US Hispanic network Telemundo is kicking off the Miss Universe 2012 event with an original special programme, Camino a la Coron, dedicated to the competition's 19 Latina contestants.
The pageant will take place on Wednesday 19 December at Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino in Las Vegas and will be hosted by Rashel Díaz and Omar Germenos of Telemundo's morning show Un Nuevo Día. The part of the event where contestants reveal details of their lives and share some of their interests prior to the competition, will be hosted by the Mexican star Mónica Noguera and Guad Venegas from Telemundo's Latino youth cable network, mun2.
And this year, for the first time ever, Hispanic fans will be able to vote for their favourite contestant for the semi-finals.
In this year's Miss Universe pageant, more than 80 countries will be represented. Last year the winner was Miss Angola. The Latina contestants are already stirring up some controversy, with some discrepancies regarding contestants' country of origin.
