Xiaomi to launch Android STB

Chinese smartphone manufacturer Xiaomi has confirmed that it will launch a set-top box (STB) on 14 November to complement its line of Android handsets.

The company's CEO Lei Jun posted a teaser photo of a cardboard box on Xiaomi’s Sina Weibo account, with the words “Bingo! This time, we’re only selling a box.”

It is not clear whether Xiaomi will use the Google TV platform or its own solution.

It is possible that Xiaomi will eventually localise the box for other regions, as it has said it is taking its time to get things right in China before heading overseas.
