DirecTV launches Play, online VOD and streaming service

DirecTV is to launch a new online platform, Play, with over 5,000 different items of content available on-demand and live streams of the platform's sport offering. The service will be available from every connected device, such as PCs, tablets and smartphones.

DirecTV's online platform will offer content from various providers, as well as in its regular cable offering. Moviecity Play, Fox Play, SPN, Play, HBO Go, TNT Plus and Space Plus will be available from the start. In addition, DirecTV Sports will be broadcast live, and will stream some of its content including the Barclays Premier League and La Liga BBVA.

"DirecTV Play is more than a website with online content, it's the most complete service of its kind in Latin America," said Atul Bansal, director of new media at DirecTV.

As a regular online VOD service, the content is divided into different categories, including the newest and most viewed content. Users need to register with MiDirecTV to have access to the platform.

DirecTV plans to release Play in Latin America (16 million), where its client base is on the increase.
