Orange testing augmented reality on France 3's Plus Belle la Vie

Orange, France Télévisions Editions Numériques and production group Telfrance have struck a technological partnership to test an augmented reality project based on France 3's popular daily series Plus Belle la Vie.

Announced at MIPTV in Cannes, the development is based on the creation of a second-screen application that will enrich the live TV experience thanks to mobile Wi-Fi.

Due to launch at the end of this year, the new app will be downloaded free of charge.

Synchronised with the live daily TV broadcast of the serial, the app allows viewers to interact with the show and capture video clips to share on social networks. Ongoing tests are also covering product placement to enable viewers to buy the clothes worn by the actors in the series.

Orange's fingerprinting solution offers a more rapid synchronisation that reduces latency time.

The three partners are looking to enable viewers to interact more closely with the series and "pass from a TV to watch to a TV to live".

Plus Belle la Vie is France 3's key daily series. Aired from Monday to Friday at 8.10pm, it attracts five million viewers each evening. Its website claims 150,000 unique visitors each day.
