NAB 2013: Ooyala adds personal touch to multiscreen video discovery

Online video provider Ooyala has launched a range of products designed to offer video discovery for personalised channels and also publish across Android phones and connected TVs.

Adding to its core range of products, the management, publishing, analytics and monetisation technology provider believes that its latest multiscreen offerings build on its track record of innovation for companies needing to deliver premium, protected content across all screens. It adds that the new products provide an engagement that maximises viewer personalisation, content discovery and monetisation.

In detail, the new Ooyala Discovery Guide offers personalised programming guides that blend live and VOD content. The company believes that the product launch represents a unique data-driven approach to engagement and revenue optimisation that has been proven with customers to advance key business goals such as driving usage, increasing ad completions and improving ad fill rates.

The solution uses programme schedules, behavioural data, content metadata, explicit user input and editorial controls to provide a personalised channel line-up. It uses real-time analytics and patented optimisation algorithms to provide up-to-the-minute recommendations of the content the viewer is most likely to watch and includes a watch-later queuing functionality so viewers can select the programming they wish to keep on a personal playlist.

Complementing discovery, and available on the Google Play store, is the Hook product which comprises a mobile video playback application designed to simplify distribution to nearly all Android devices. Developed to enable media companies to deliver premium content to nearly all Android phones and tablets, it offers live and linear streaming, studio-approved digital rights management (DRM) technology to protect premium content, and HLS support to provide adaptive bitrate streaming and ensure fast, optimal viewing experiences.

In addition to these two products are the new Ooyala XTV Connect which provides for playback of video discovered on mobile devices via connected TVs, and the Ooyala Rights Locker which is designed to manage entitlements for linear and VOD content on a per-user basis.
