Mobixell tackles video over LTE QoE in Asia

Mobixell Networks has won a new deal to provide its Seamless Access mobile video optimisation and Web acceleration technology for an LTE operator in Asia.

The yet-to-be named mobile operator, which the company says is a "major player" in the Asian market, estimates that its LTE network will deliver speeds up to ten times faster than the 3G network. And in turn, that will drive a sharp spike in data usage.

Looking to avoid any impact to the user's quality of experience (QoE) from congestion, the network team turned to Mobixell. Multi-site deployments will continue throughout 2013.

"This deal highlights the fact that video optimisation and Web acceleration are important features even on LTE networks, and especially in the growing APAC market," said Yaron Dishon, senior vice president of sales in APAC for Mobixell. "More and more operators are coming around to this conclusion, and we expect this trend to continue wherever LTE networks are being deployed."

LTE technology could reach as many as 1.2 billion subscribers by 2016, according to IHS iSuppli. As it becomes clear that LTE customers consume far more data than 3G customers, congestion-aware mobile data optimisation will need to play a major role in LTE deployments. In LTE and legacy mobile networks, Mobixell Seamless Access video optimisation and Web acceleration technologies are applied only when needed to mitigate network congestion that can cause degradation of customer experience.
