Ecuador counts 650,000 pay-TV subscribers

Pay-TV subscriptions in Ecuador are on the increase, with the telecoms authority SUPERTEL revealing that in Q4 2012 there were 277,182 DTH pay-TV, 50,581 MMDS, and 323,107 cable TV homes.

Out of the 14,438,499 inhabitants in the country, SUPERTEL says that 2,733,654 have access to pay-TV.

DirecTV ended Q4 2012 with 232,388 subscribers nationally, reports Next TV Latam, and CNT TV reached 44,794.

Ecuador's most successful MMDS operators include Univisa, Telesat, Cablevision and Intercable. In total there are some 50,581 MMDS subscribers.

The wireless pay-TV market is dominated by Univisa with more than 38,825 subscribers in the country's most populated areas, followed by Cablevision with 1,428 subscribers in Guayaquil, Quito and the surrounding areas.

In the cable sector, TV Cable is No 1 with over 156,000 subscribers, followed by América Móvil's Claro TV with 18,771.
