Grupo Salinas to launch pay-TV in Colombia

Mexico's Grupo Salinas, part of the Azteca TV group, is preparing to launch a new pay-TV model based on its Totalmovie OTT service which will offer VOD and linear pay-TV channels on the same platform through low cost set-top boxes.

The company will use the licence granted to Azteca Communications by the Colombian regulator ANTV last November, according to Next TV Latam. No launch date has yet been given.

In 2011 Communications Azteca Colombia, a consortium of Azteca TV and Totalplay, won the bid for the Colombian Government's Fibra Optica Nacional de Telecomunicaciones project which aims to connect 756 cities in the country. The company has completed the first phase of the project and is now working on the second. As a result of the first phase, which was completed in December, more than one million Colombian inhabitants in 226 cities now have access to the fibre optic network.

The company is currently in negotiations with local operators.

In Mexico, Totalplay offers IPTV on FTTH with Nagra, middleware from Sezmi, and set-top boxes from Netgem and Huawei.
