Fremantle finds Harmony in international format drive

In the latest of its flurry of activity, FremantleMedia has acquired Canadian format Family Harmony (Un Air de Famille) to offer the programme through its worldwide network of production companies.

The move comes only days after the global creator, producer and distributor of television brands embarked upon a major review of its enterprises arm in order to establish one new, stand-alone, global division focused on distribution and kids and family entertainment.

Created and produced by Attraction Images in collaboration with Radio-Canada, Family Harmony proved to be a hit, with domestic ratings climbing from what was claimed to be a string launch and subsequently growing by more than 42% through the course of the series. It was quickly renewed for a second season. The programme will be FremantleMedia’s first acquisition from Quebec.

Commenting on being picked up by Fremantle, Josée Vallée and Jean-François Boulianne, Attraction Images' president and EVP respectively, said: “We are thrilled that FremantleMedia has picked up our format and will be offering it to territories globally. Family Harmony has been a great success in Canada, where it has just been re-commissioned for a second series by Radio-Canada. We are immensely proud that Family Harmony is FremantleMedia’s first acquisition from Quebec.”

Added Rob Clark, director, global entertainment development, FremantleMedia: “We are delighted to have acquired Family Harmony. It’s a warm, inclusive, feel-good format celebrating a family’s relationships as much as their talents, and it’s exactly right for today’s television schedule. We are very much looking forward to bringing local versions of Family Harmony to audiences around the world.”
