French media regulator CSA has released a report on the future of DTT to push the French Government into deciding on the next phase of the broadcasting standard.
By 2020-2025, DTT will still remain the primary way that TV is broadcast.
In the short-term, the report advises that all terrestrial MPEG2 broadcasts should be replaced by MPEG4 broadcasts by the end of 2015, giving people time to get equipped. The CSA also says MPEG-4 would pave the way to introducing DVB-T2 and HVEC coding in 2020.
Submitted to restraint and competition from other digital platforms, DTT must keep improving and bringing interactive, attractive and innovative services, the CSA explains.
It also encourages the further development of HD and the introduction of a HD platform in the 4K standard.
