Telefónica Brasil, a subsidiary of Spanish group Telefónica, had in 2011 a combined net profit of 5.072 billion reais ($2.949 billion dollars), registering a growth of 18.2% over the year.
The growth in profits during the year was due in the main to a significant increase in the number of customers, which rose from 75.4 million in late 2010 to 86,900,000 in December. However the operator included data on their numbers of fixed and mobile telephony, broadband Internet and pay television.According to numbers reported by the company which claims to be the market leader in mobile telephony in Brazil, net revenue grew 5.4% in 2011, to 33.171 billion reais ($19 billion), while EBITDA was 12.034 billion reais (about 6996.5 million), an increase of 6.4 percent.In its financial statement for the year, the company clarified that the figures refer to the combined results of the fixed telephony operator Telesp and the last nine months of the mobile operator Vivo which joined Telefónica joined in April 2011.
Total subscribers of broadband Internet services rose 9.5% to 3.6 million and the subscription television in 43.7% to 700,000.
