Du to provide broadcast uplink to YahLive Y1A

UAE based satellite operator YahLive has formed a partnership with telco Du to provide high definition (HD) broadcasting services in the Gulf.

From its media hub in Dubai, Du will now offer to uplink its broadcast clients to YahLive's Y1A satellite, located in orbit at 52.5 degrees East.

"The United Arab Emirates is one of the leading media markets in the Middle East and North Africa region, so it was extremely important that we offer an uplink service towards Yah!Live satellite to UAE-based TV channels, using our competitive high bit rate for the HD channels, which will keep high quality, and strengthen YahLive's position as the HD hot-spot in the region," said Mohamed Youssif, chief executive, YahLive.

"Since our launch we have received significant interest from broadcasters who have been keen to extend their audience reach through our HD offering and this agreement will now allow us to facilitate them."

Mohamed Al Shai, senior director, broadcasting at Du, said: "Having our roots in the UAE, we are delighted to partner UAE-based YahLive. This partnership will enable YahLive to be available to all broadcasters connected to Du in the UAE and regionally.

"With the addition of YahLive, our satellite offerings will be strengthened as it will provide broadcasters with a new option over the Middle East, Europe, and Africa geographies," he said.

YahLive is a partner company to YahSat, and a wholly owned subsidiary of global satellite operator SES and the Abu Dhabi Government's investment arm, Mubadala Development Company.
