ZDFinfo to launch on 5 September

German public broadcaster ZDF will launch its revamped digital channel ZDFinfokanal under the new name ZDFinfo on 5 September 2011.

The channel will continue to predominantly screen news and factual programmes, but will focus more strongly on youth programming.

New cross-media TV formats will allow viewers to take part in programmes. One example of this is the new interactive debate show ZDF Log In on Wednesdays at 21.15 CET, in which the political issues which are hot topics on internet message boards will be discussed.

There will also be an interactive feedback show, Heute Plus, in which the viewers of ZDF's flagship evening news programme Heute can discuss the content of the show with its editors. The schedule will also comprise documentaries, a critical programme on Europe and a daily advice show focusing on a variety of consumer issues relating to the internet, computers and mobile phones.

With the launch of ZDFinfo, ZDF will conclude the revamping of its three digital channels. This has seen the launch of the Youth channel ZDFneo which was created out of the documentary channel ZDFdokukanal in November 2009, and the replacement of theatre channel ZDFtheaterkanal with the cultural channel ZDFkultur in May 2011.
