Eutelsat Germany joins HbbTV consortium

Eutelsat Germany has become an official member of European industry consortium HbbTV (Hybrid Broadcast Broadband TV).

The initiative's members collaborate in the development of standards for the combination of broadcast and internet content on hybrid reception devices equipped with an internet connection.

KabelKiosk, Eutelsat Germany's direct-to-cable platform for cable operators, is currently preparing the market introduction of its hybrid TV service KabelKiosk interaktiv for autumn 2011. The interactive service will complement KabelKiosk's linear offer with multimedia web content.

KabelKiosk interaktiv will contain video-on-demand (VOD) services, local content provided by network operators, portals and applications from KabelKiosk's partner channels, an electronic programme guide and red button services leading to multimedia content.

The members of the HbbTV initiative , which was founded in April 2009, develop the HbbTV specifications standardised in June 2010 by European authority ETSI in order to make services combining TV and internet available in a broad and uniform way. Eutelsat has been supporting the initiative since December 2009.
