Pushing even further its forays into professional online video content, YouTube has unveiled the initial rollout of YouTube Live, which will integrate live streaming capabilities streamed a number of popular concerts and sporting events.
The online video provider says that that it has offered the live streaming capabilities in direct response to user feedback. YouTube Live, which will integrate live streaming capabilities and discovery tools directly into the YouTube platform with a new YouTube Live browse page at www.youtube.com/live. Users are able to subscribe to your YouTube live-streaming partners in order to be notified of upcoming live streams on their customised homepage.
The service began with the The Digitour live stream on 8 April 2011. Said Joshua Siegel, Product Manager, and Christopher Hamilton, YouTube Product Marketing Manager, in a blog post: “YouTube will start gradually rolling out the live streaming beta platform, which will allow certain YouTube partners with accounts in good standing to stream live content on YouTube. The goal is to provide thousands of partners with the capability to live stream from their channels in the months ahead. In order to ensure a great live stream viewing experience, we'll roll this offering out incrementally over time.”
The news is the latest in a series of announcement concerning the refinement of the YouTube platform and comes only days after it was reported that parent company Google was about to invest $100 million on original content dedicated to areas such as arts and sports.
